A high-school-level algebra course for eighth graders ready to dive deeper into mathematics.

Grade 8YearElectiveAccelerated pathway

Description

Algebra I gives eighth graders a rigorous, high-school-level course in algebraic thinking. Students study linear and quadratic functions, systems of equations, and polynomial operations while building strong habits for showing and checking their work. The course emphasizes modeling real situations and explaining solutions clearly.

What students learn

  • Solve linear equations, inequalities, and systems of equations
  • Graph and interpret linear, exponential, and quadratic functions
  • Add, subtract, and multiply polynomial expressions
  • Model real-world situations with appropriate equations
  • Justify each step of a solution and check for reasonableness

Signature project

Students build a function-based model of a savings plan and analyze how the choices change outcomes.
