A hands-on elective where students design, build, and test solutions to real-world style challenges.

Grade 7SemesterElective

Description

Engineering Design challenges students to solve open-ended problems using the engineering design process. Students plan, build, and refine models while learning about structures, simple machines, and teamwork. They learn that thoughtful failure and revision are an important part of building strong solutions.

What students learn

  • Apply the engineering design process to a build challenge
  • Plan a solution using sketches and a materials list
  • Construct and test a working model
  • Use test results to improve a design
  • Collaborate effectively and share roles within a team

Signature project

Teams design and test a structure or device that meets a set of given constraints, then present their results.
