Spring Arts Showcase Fills the Harbor Commons
Painters, musicians, and stage crews turned the Harbor Commons into a gallery and concert hall for an evening of student art.

The Harbor Commons glowed on Friday evening as the Spring Arts Showcase took over every corner of the space. Canvases lined the walls, music drifted from a small stage near the windows, and a current of families wandered between the displays. Months of rehearsals, sketches, and quiet practice all arrived at once, and the room felt warmer for it.
Ms. Lena Marsh organized the visual side of the night, hanging student paintings and clay pieces at a height where younger visitors could see them up close. "Every piece here started as a rough idea someone almost erased," she told the crowd during a short welcome. "Tonight we celebrate the part where they kept going." Her students stood proudly beside their work, answering questions about colors and choices.
Across the room, the music ensemble took turns performing short sets, with a string trio featuring Amara K. drawing an especially attentive hush. Backstage, a student crew managed the lighting and set changes, swapping music stands and adjusting lamps between acts. A pair of eighth graders narrated transitions, keeping the evening moving while performers caught their breath.
Principal Dr. Marisol Vega circulated through the gallery, pausing at nearly every display to ask students about their process. By the end of the night, the guest notebook near the door was filled with messages, doodles, and thank-you notes. Ms. Marsh promised the showcase would return next spring, and several students were already sketching ideas for what they might make.
