Grade 7SemesterElectiveArts pathway

Description

Creative Writing is a semester elective for students who love to make up stories or want to try. Through low-pressure prompts and a supportive workshop, students experiment with characters, settings, dialogue, and imagery across short fiction, poetry, and personal narrative. Sharing work aloud and trading kind, specific feedback helps everyone take creative risks and find their voice.

What students learn

  • Generate story ideas using prompts, observation, and imagination
  • Build believable characters and vivid settings in short fiction
  • Experiment with poetic forms, imagery, and figurative language
  • Give and receive supportive, specific feedback in a writing workshop
  • Revise a creative piece toward a polished final draft

Signature project

Each student assembles a small portfolio chapbook of original stories and poems to share at a class reading.
