ELA-710

English Language Arts 7

Seventh graders read more widely and write longer, better-organized pieces that show real thinking.

Grade 7YearRequired

Description

English Language Arts 7 builds on sixth-grade skills with richer texts and more independent writing. Students compare authors' points of view, trace how ideas develop across a longer work, and craft multi-paragraph essays that make and support a claim. Frequent reading, journaling, and peer feedback help students find their own style and grow as thoughtful communicators.

What students learn

  • Analyze how authors develop ideas and characters across a text
  • Write multi-paragraph essays that state and support a clear claim
  • Cite specific textual evidence to back up an interpretation
  • Compare information from two or more sources on the same topic
  • Use editing routines to fix grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Give and use peer feedback to improve a draft

Signature project

Students write and share a short literary analysis comparing two texts that explore a common theme.
