MAT-710

Mathematics 7

Seventh graders deepen their work with proportions, integers, and the first steps of algebra.

Grade 7YearRequired

Description

Mathematics 7 helps students move from arithmetic toward algebraic thinking. Students solve proportional-reasoning problems, work confidently with positive and negative numbers, and use variables to model and solve equations. Geometry and basic probability round out the year, with an emphasis on showing clear, organized work.

What students learn

  • Solve real-world problems using proportional relationships
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide positive and negative numbers
  • Write and solve one- and two-step equations and inequalities
  • Find area, surface area, and volume of common figures
  • Use basic probability to describe the chance of an event
  • Show organized work and check answers for reasonableness

Signature project

Students design a scale drawing of a campus space using proportional reasoning and measurement.
