Grade 6YearElectiveArts pathway

Description

Choir 6 helps new singers build healthy vocal habits and a love of singing in a group. Students learn warm-ups, breathing, and how to match pitch, working toward unison and two-part songs in a variety of styles. Rehearsals are supportive and upbeat, with plenty of encouragement for anyone nervous about singing aloud. The choir shares its growing repertoire at school concerts during the year.

What students learn

  • Use healthy breathing and posture to support singing
  • Match pitch and stay on part in unison and two-part songs
  • Read simple melodies using solfege or note names
  • Blend with the group and respond to the director's gestures
  • Perform a varied program at school concerts with confidence

Signature project

The choir prepares a themed set of songs to perform at the spring music night.
