SCI-810

Physical Science 8

Eighth graders explore matter, energy, forces, and motion through experiments and engineering challenges.

Grade 8YearRequired

Description

Physical Science 8 introduces the core ideas of chemistry and physics that prepare students for high school. Students investigate the structure of matter, chemical reactions, energy, and the forces that shape motion. Engineering challenges invite students to apply what they learn by designing and testing their own solutions.

What students learn

  • Describe the structure of atoms and how matter is organized
  • Explain how energy is transferred and transformed
  • Investigate forces, motion, and Newton's laws
  • Model simple chemical reactions and conservation of mass
  • Design, test, and improve a solution to an engineering problem
  • Analyze experimental data and communicate conclusions

Signature project

Students take on an engineering design challenge, testing and refining a device to meet a goal.
